-Interview Part 3-
QUESTION: Speaking of influences. Are there any others that
have inspired you, in one way or another, in life,
to continue with your artwork and more?
STEPHAN: "Yes!!! First off...me mum, for one. She's never kept me
away from being exposed to much while growing up. That's
why I'm strongly open-minded. Me grandparents (both
Alice & Gilbert McIntosh; deceased). Me aunt (Joan
McIntosh Dennis; deceased). Joan was always encouraging
me to continue, and she was also the one that had me both
reading and writing by the time I was 3 years old. Me uncle
(Bobby Dennis). I can hear him now...'When are you
gonna draw some classic HOTRODS?' (smiling) Me aunt
and uncle (Retha & Kenny Farley; deceased). Then there's
me uncle (Jerry Snowden; deceased). Jerry was the cool
-est. He was a monster kid as well growing up with all the
classic films and E.C. horror comics. He encouraged me
to not only keep doing what I enjoy, but also...secretly,
Jerry encouraged me to play a lot of practical jokes on var-
ious family members starting at the early age of 4.
(laughing) Speaking of that...here's a heads-up on a little
something that's coming soon. I have compiled a collect-
ion of really hilarious short stories depicting moments
where I used to literally scare the crap outta many of me
unexpecting family. Most of them were real tight-asses.
Absolutely no sense of humour at all. (laughing) Me
grandfather (when he was alive), once attributed the
phrase 'loose in the caboose' to descibe after they calmed
down, stopped screaming, and composed themselves
after a bit. (laughing) You'll be able to read a fine little
collection of short stories (that are true and actually took
place from 1970-1983...exactlly 13 years of hair raising,
blood curdling, hearts missing a beat or two, exciting
moments), that'll leave you laughing for hours on end.
While reading...you'll almost feel the high pitch screaming jumping right off the pages. (laughing) The book is to be titled
"Terrifying Tales from the Haunted Outhouse," and like I said, it'll be coming soon. And last, but not least...me really
dear friend (and former school teacher), the one and only...Bonita Snowden Tito. Me #1 fan!!! Opps...hello to Theirry
Tito. If I forgot Theirry...I'd never hear the end of it. (laughing) Oh yeah...one last list (so to speak). I cannot forget to
mention authors such as: (1) Mary W. Shelley, (2) Edgar Allan Poe, (3) Bram Stoker...and the best, (4) H. P.
QUESTION: And what about Hallowe'en?
STEPHAN: "You bet!!! Hallowe'en is the only holiday that I recognize and celebrate. The 'AUTUMN-FALL' has to be the best
time of the year."
QUESTION: I would agree. Oh yes...my fault. What about the newer horrors such as "THE WALKING DEAD?"
STEPHAN: "Ohhh, hell yeah!!! I absolutely love that series. And believe it or not (and you can ask her if you'd like), me mum loves
that series as well. Mum is 79 and she's a big fan. She's not too much up on the gory stuff but she loves the story and also
thinks that it's one of the best series on TV today...nothingelse compares with it. She was really hoping that Michonne
(hope I spelled that correctly), was going to cut the Governor all to pieces, but she was more than happy to see him bite
the dust. And this is coming from a woman that deplores violence. (laughing) She really hated when Herschel was killed
by the Governor. Mum even watches the after show, "THE TALKING DEAD," as well, before the local news."
QUESTION: That's cool. Uh...I would agree. Before we go. Any last comments?
STEPHAN: "Hmmm...let's see. Just be patient. There are lots of monstrous goodies on this site and more appearing soon. I also have
me very first children's book I wrote a few years ago coming out soon. All I need to do now is to complete the cover and
inner illustrations for it. Pertaining back to Hallowe'en? Another book I have been thinking about for quiet sometime now
is one consisting of several thousand's of photographs depicting children and adults celebrating Hallowe'en from 1880 to
1980. The collection of photographs are just amazing. Hopefully that will be out later this year. And last...for all you
parents outthere...you know the ones (well...they know who they are), the one's that disencourages their own children
day-in and day-out. The ones that also go outta their way to overtly protect their little so-called angels. Stop doing that!!!
You're not doing them anything favourable by doing that. That over protection is just what's ruining kids today. Here's
an example. Out of 28 grandchildren in me family...I am the only one that did not get involved in (1) drugs, (2)
alcoholism, and/or (3) needing psychiatric help. That should say something. I'm the monsterkid that enjoyed life. They're
the one's that were shielded and guided away from it. Get the point? I thought so!!! What kind of parent(s) will not allow
their children to watch a classic movie such as "FRANKENSTEIN" (1933), or even the original "KING KONG," but will
allow their children to be flooded with real violence aired daily on the TV news? Something's definitely wrong with that
picture, folks. I believe it was Vincent Price that once phrased a quote stating 'Monsters are not bad for children...' So...
introduce them to the classic films and never...let me repeat...never discourage your kids away from the arts, writing
and/or even acting."
QUESTION: That's some really good, sound advice......
STEPHAN: "...and it didn't cost them anything. Uh...let me share this with you. Back in 2006, I was working outside me house on a
life-size statue of "Creature from the Black Lagoon." Anyway...a school bus stopped to let some kids off. Just so happens
all the other kids were on one side looking out and asking questions and making comments like 'Look at that!' and "That's
really cool!' and more. Nothing negative. The bus driver was impressed. Not long afterward, there were about a 1/2 dozen
kids rode up on their bikes admiring at the statue and asking all kinds of questions. I answered them. They left."
QUESTION: And what happened? I'm almost afraid to ask, but something's bound to have happened.
STEPHAN: "Yes...it did. A few days later, I went to the local Kroger to pick mum up a vegatble plate at the deli. While standing
there an unknown man and woman approached me asking if I was the guy that was working on that statue. I answered
'Yes.' Here's the real shocker. The man stated that his two kids were talking about it and they wanted to learn how to do
that. They stated they thought it was cool and wanted to be just like me. Then the man stated 'I don't want you to speak to
my children ever again and I had better not encourage them to want to paint, draw or anything like that again. I asked
'Then what do you expect me to say when they come walking up to me asking how do you do that?' He said 'I don't
know, but I'd rather have my kids smoking dope and popping pills before they become something like you!'"
QUESTION: That's just crazy!
STEPHAN: "Tell me about it!!! I have no idea as to who they were. I had never seen them before...ever. Both me self and the girl in
the deli couldn't believe people would act like that or think that way, but remember, that's Powell County for ya (their
way of thinking and being a illresponsible adult raising their children in Stanton, KY). Not everyone here is like that, but
many are and that's quiet disturbing. You cannot report it. I've tried several times. All I got from the local authorities
and/or the local assigned KY. STATE POLICE is 'shut up and mind your own business.' I've even been threatened with
arrest just trying to report a matter. And before I forget...you should see how they (and the STANTON P.D.), drive daily,
especially in front of me mum's house. They drive anywhere between 60-90 mph day and night. I've even stood on me
mum's front portch and watched the KY. STATE POLICE side-by-side a STANTON PD (black Dodge Charger),
racing each other. That usually occurs after midnight now and then. It's just a matter of time before they hit and kill
somebody. Children's safety? They absolutely do not care and feel they're not responsible if it should happen. And trust
me...it's going to happen sooner or later. The MAYOR/City Council do not care. Noone cares. Those that do care are
afraid to say anything fearing retaliation from either the SPD and KSP. That's a real shame it's come to that. If your
vehicle has tinted windows...they harass the hell outta ya. Their official vehicles on the otherhand are so heavily tinted
you cannot even see who inside during the daytime. We had a WWII veteran severily beaten & robbed in 2013 just across
from mum's. They beat him with an iron pipe. He later died. I saw a SPD drive right by while that beating took place out-
side next to the street. Apparently that officer was too busy to stop, do his job, and catch the one's that commited the
crime right then and there. What I saw and heard fell on deaf ears. That's nothing unusual around here. I could tell you a
few more things that would keep your hair standing on end for weeks, but we would be here all day."
QUESTION: That's just insane.
STEPHAN: Here's one for ya. Back in August, 2010, just a few minutes after midnight I was sitting at the computer checking me
email. All of a sudden this loud thump hit me back, bedroom wall (directly across from where I was sitting). I thought
someone had just threw something at the house. I went outside and was shocked to find that it was a 'BULLIT' that
hit the wall. I went inside, called the DISPATCH, and they verified that in fact a shot had been fired, officers were on the
scene a block away from me house, and that they would be there immediately. Hour after hour passed and noone showed
up. The DISPATCH stopped answering me calls after that. Luckily, that bullit hit a wooden beam that stopped it from
coming on throuugh the wall. We later foundout that the bullit was shot through a window at the local police and a
couple KSP officers. All they did was knock on the man's door and he started shooting. Believe it or not, they didn't do
anything to that man...no charges...nothing. I couldn't get any results, so I went to an upcoming city council meeting think
-ing that might work. The police chief (Kevin Neal), was rather quick to say that the event never happened. Funny thing...
he was not there when the shot was fired. Exactly 22 seconds later he then changed his story and said that the shot did
take place. I was livid at that moment. The mayor (Dale Allen), and city council...none of that had any effect on them.
They didn't give a damn. The chief (idiot), said the reason he was not arrested and charged was that he was just old and
sick...plus he had once worked as a constable. Can you believe that? What came next was more shocking. The mayor
(Dale Allen), asked me, 'Did anybody get hurt or killed by that bullit? If nobody got hurt or killed then there's no harm
done. It's time you need to leave because we're getting tired listening to you.' That bullit was a 30/30 cal. At that time
there were several kids out going door to door trying to sell GS cookies. Can you imagine what could have happened in
that scenerio? That's terrifying when you think about it. There's two words that come to mind here regarding these public
officials...being (1) hypocrite and (2) prevaricator. And that does not do anything to help make anyone's community better
toward a more possitive outlook."
QUESTION: I would be leaving that place soon as I could if I was you.
STEPHAN: "I'm already way ahead of you brother! I've already located a really nice 1880 Victorian house that I'm interested in
buying soon and it's far away from this damned place. Want some advice? Don't ever come here to this area. Anywhere
else you choose is fine...just don't come here. You'll thank me for it."
QUESTION: I will make a note of it.
STEPHAN: "You're welcome. In fact, anyone, and everyone, reading this needs to make a note of it."
